How do I check if an IP is really Googlebot?
Look the address up against the ranges Google publishes for its crawlers. If it is inside one of them it is Googlebot; a request that sends a Googlebot user agent from any other address is not. Google also accepts a reverse DNS check (the name ends in googlebot.com or google.com and resolves back to the same IP).
Does OpenAI publish the IP addresses of GPTBot?
Yes. OpenAI keeps separate lists for GPTBot (training crawler), OAI-SearchBot (search) and ChatGPT-User (pages fetched while a person is chatting). All three are on this page.
Why is an IP with a Googlebot user agent not in the list?
Because anyone can copy a user agent. Scrapers often pose as Googlebot to get past rate limits. The published ranges are the part they cannot fake.
How often are the lists updated?
We reload every list from the operator's own URL. The date of the last load is shown at the top of this page.
